MARSHALL EXTERNAL HIGH-GAIN MOD: THE ORIGINAL METALHEAD ELECTRONICS SOUND
Designed by Elan Memran of MetalHead Electronics, the Marshall External High-Gain Mod brings my original high-gain circuit to compatible Marshall amplifiers without permanently modifying the amplifier.
The system connects through the amplifier’s preamp tube sockets using a model-specific adapter and a compact external control box.
Get the original MetalHead Electronics high-gain sound and control while keeping your Marshall’s original circuitry intact.
The system can be removed and the original tubes reinstalled to return the amplifier to its original configuration.

HOW DOES THE MOD WORK?
Depending on the Marshall model, one or two preamp tubes are removed from the amplifier.
The supplied MetalHead Electronics adapter connects through the corresponding tube sockets and connects the amplifier to the external high-gain circuitry.
The required original preamp stages are bypassed and replaced by the external circuit.
The system is removable. The original tubes can be reinstalled to return the amplifier to its original configuration.
TONE AND CONTROL
The Marshall External High-Gain Mod gives you two controllable gain stages, a Master Volume, and the built-in MetalHead Electronics noise gate.
On supported models, the system can switch between a classic JCM800-style circuit and the MetalHead Electronics modified high-gain circuit.
The result is a wide range of Marshall tube tones, from classic overdrive to aggressive high gain.
COMPATIBLE MARSHALL AMPLIFIERS
The External Marshall Mod has been tested on the following amplifier models:
- Marshall Origin 50
- Marshall JTM45
Additional model-specific versions are being considered, including:

- 2204
- JMP
- Plexi / Super Lead
- JCM900

- 2550 Silver Jubilee
- JTM100 / Lead Tremolo 100W / 1959T
- SV20
Important: These additional models are not yet confirmed as compatible. Each model-specific version must be tested and approved before being offered.
Tube socket connections, heater supplies, and amplifier configurations vary between models. Please provide your exact Marshall model when registering.
WHAT WE ASK FROM OUR BETA TESTERS
We want you to use the MetalHead Electronics External Marshall Mod with your own amplifier in real playing conditions.
Try it, play through it, and tell us about your experience with installation, operation, compatibility, and tone.
We also want to hear your comments, suggestions, and anything you think could make the system better.
BETA TESTER UPGRADE GUARANTEE
If improvements or design changes are made as a result of the Beta Testing Program, customers who purchase a beta unit will be eligible to receive the improved unit at no additional product cost.
To receive the improved unit, the original beta unit must be returned to MetalHead Electronics.
Shipping terms: The beta tester pays the shipping cost to return the original unit to MetalHead Electronics. MetalHead Electronics pays the shipping cost to send the improved replacement unit back to the beta tester.
You will not have to purchase the improved unit again.
THE ORIGINAL METALHEAD ELECTRONICS SOUND
The Marshall External High-Gain Mod is based on the high-gain Marshall modifications I developed at MetalHead Electronics.
MetalHead Electronics-modified Marshalls have been used by professional guitar players, including Dino Cazares of Fear Factory, who used my modified Marshall on early Fear Factory recordings.
The Marshall External High-Gain Mod brings that original high-gain circuit into an external, removable system for compatible Marshall amplifiers.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Tube amplifiers contain potentially lethal high voltages, even after they have been switched off.
The MetalHead Electronics External Marshall Mod does not require opening the amplifier chassis. Never open or service the amplifier chassis unless you are qualified to work on high-voltage tube equipment.
Always switch off the amplifier, disconnect it from the power outlet, and follow the supplied installation instructions before connecting or removing the system. Never connect or disconnect the adapter while the amplifier is powered.
Manufacturer warranty terms vary. Check your amplifier manufacturer’s warranty conditions regarding aftermarket equipment.
